Concerning the importance of Veneziano model for string theory

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the importance of the Veneziano amplitude for string theory. We present some motivations for the construction of dual models. Then, the amplitude proposed by Veneziano is discussed along with the hypothesis of duality, which was essential for our work. We show how the Veneziano amplitude satisfies the requirement of duality and some of the postulates of the S Matrix method. At the end, we discuss how the work of Veneziano marks the birth of string theory.
