Problem-Based Learning in Graduate Studies - An Experience with a Course for Local Health System managers in Ceará, Brazil

Abstract:

The results achieved in education for health professionals in recent years require a more effective approach and learning strategies. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has been considered one of the most important innovations in the education of health professionals. Both the results and the coherence with principal theory of adult education demonstrate this methods impact. This article describes the planning and development of a specialization course in local health management. Over the last 4 year (1995-99), the Ceará School of Public Health has focused on PBL as a central method in the educational process.
