Resumo: Realizamos um curso, em 1986, tendo como clientela estudantes de Medicina, com o objetivo de aprimorar neles o raciocínio clínico e torná-los mais hábeis nas tomadas de decisão. Integramos o conhecimento clínico com o epidemiológico, de forma que os estudantes passassem a considerar e a entender a importância de diversas variáveis ligadas à eficiência da atividade clínica. Os estudantes tornaram-se mais aptos a: 1) colher e analisar informações; 2) listar problemas; 3) elaborar os planos diagnósticos, terapêutico e educacional; 4) usar um método de estudo orientado pelos problemas identificados no doente. Na opinião dos alunos, o curso foi importante e deveria ser oferecido não apenas para estudantes de graduação, mas também para mestrandos, médicos em geral e, inclusive, professores.

Summary: Clinical reasoning and decision-making in medicine - a course integrating internal medicine and epidemiology. A course took place in 1986, for medical students aimed at improving their clinical reasoning and the ability to make decisions. The clinical and epidemiologic knowledge was integrated to permit that the students considered and understood the value of several variables related to the efficiency of the clinical activity. The students have got more ability for: 1. getting and assessing information; 2. listing problems; 3. making diagnostic, therapeutic and educational plans; 4. using a method of study oriented by the identified problems of the patients. In the student's opinion the course was important and it should also be offered to master's students, doctors in general includion professors of medicine.
