Post harvest traits of bananas 'Prata-Anã' and 'BRS Platina'undre cold storage

Banana cultivars grown in Brazil are susceptible to major banana diseases, it has been underway to search for resistant varieties that can replace them with good acceptance by producers and consumers. This study aimed to evaluate the physical and chemical characteristics of banana fruits of 'Prata Anã' cultivar and its hybrids 'BRS Platina', stored at 15 ºC and 25 ºC. The experimental design was entirely at random in factorial scheme 2 (genotypes) x 2 (temperature) x 4 (ripening stage). The fruits were evaluated as for sensory analysis, and skin color, diameter, length, finger drop resistance, firmness, weight with and without skin, skin thickness, pulp/peel ratio, soluble solids, pH, acidity, total sugars and starch. The 'BRS Platina' genotype shows better characteristics with fruit size, it is similar as for acidity and lesser sweetness compared to 'Prata Anã' cultivar. Storage at 15 ºC increases firmness and resistance to dropping of 'Prata Anã' and 'BRS Platina' fruits in comparation to storage at 25 ºC. The 'BRS Platina' fruits had satisfactory level of acceptance, however lower than 'Prata Anã'.

Musa spp.; preservation; finger drop; Prata type genotypes; PA42-44
