Nursing consultation to the elderly in primary health care: a literature integrative review

It is a literature integrative review that aimed to identify the theoretical and methodological approaches used in the elderly nursing consultation in primary care. This survey covered the following bibliographic databases: Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Bases de Dados em Enfermagem (BDENF), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) and PubMed, from 2002 to 2011. We analyzed five items related to the study topic, which suggested both the need to establish a nurse-elderly link and the need for nurses to kknow about aging to carry out qualified health care. Another relevant point is the accumulation of activities performed by nurses. Due to that overload, they have difficulties to devote themselves to the duties of their specific job category, for example, nursing consultation. Given the literature searches, we believe that the scientific production about the nursing consultation for the elderly in the context of primary health care is still incipient.
