A typology of letters used in initial schooling in Rio Grande do Sul based on student notebooks (1937-2015)

Abstract:

This study brings a mapping of letters used in the initial schooling classes of different schools in Rio Grande do Sul, in the period of 1937-2015. This periodization is based on the documentation (student notebooks) available in the collection of a Brazilian memory center. Historiographical operation was used as methodology, taken as a researcher production that associates a (social) place with different analysis procedures (practices), added with the construction of a piece of writing. The analysis made it possible to problematize the changes in perspectives that change the orientations and prescriptions for the teaching of typefaces. From the data, it was possible to identify students' notebooks with the exclusive use of a type of font and notebooks with the concomitant use of letters, these variations were linked to the debates of the time.
