The destiny of the Visconde's house: enduring and patriotic purposes of catholic education

Abstract

This study investigates the representations of the built of the Colégio Nossa Senhora de Lourdes in the periodic press, inquiring how the idea of heritage is constructed there. Installed in the house of the Viscount of Ouro Preto in 1922, in the district of Vila Isabel, it remains until today in the same place serving students from medium sectors of the population. As part of a larger research, the results presented here respond to the following questions: How did the space and the buildings of the College appear in the press? What ideas of patrimony were disseminated there? For this, we resorted to the cataloging of the occurrences found in the Hemeroteca Digital da Biblioteca Nacional, its reading and analysis anchored in the concepts of school materiality, heritage and territoriality.
