PURPOSE: to analyze the performance of aphasic patients with mild comprehension disorders in tasks of back-image and selective attention to verbal sounds in listening tasks with competitive message. METHODS: the patients were submitted to an audiological assessment; acoustic immitance measures and measurements of acoustic reflex. An evaluation of comprehension in a propitious listening situation was made using M1-Alpha test. After that, the individuals who were able to understand simple sentences and presented an oral comprehension compatible with the achievement of the dichotic and monotic listening tests, in the presence of a competitive message (PSI) were included in this research. RESULTS: when we compared performance of patients in the sonorous competition conditions, there was a significant difference between test situations with ipsilateral competitive message. We believe that patient’s difficulty evaluated in this study is related to the message in a sonorous competition situation, mainly in the ipsilateral competitive message situation. CONCLUSIONS: aphasic patients had difficulty in tasks of back-image and selective attention to verbal sounds with competitive message. These findings contribute to show how the brain lesion and consequently the auditory disorder can interfere in daily oral comprehension in aphasic patients.
