Giordano Bruno and Fortune’s Discourse

Abstract

In the dialogue Spaccio de la bestia trionfante [Expulsion of the Triumphant Beast], published in London in 1584, Giordano Bruno presents “the seeds of his moral philosophy”. After having discussed his ontological, cosmological and epistemological reform in the previous dialogues, Bruno intends to elaborate a consequent proposal for moral, political and religious reform of the European society of his time. With the aim of showing how Bruno elaborates his proposal, after briefly reconstructing the historical-conceptual horizon that guides Nolano's thinking on the subject, I present here the translation of one of the most significant passages of this seminal and provocative dialogue, the discourse of Fortune.
