THE FOUNDATION OF THE ECONOMIC HISTORY SOCIETY DURING THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF ECONOMIC HISTORY IN ENGLAND, C.1900

Abstract

The paper presents the trajectory of Economic History Society development, the world’s first Economic History association, taking into account the intellectual environment in which the founding leaders were immersed and the debates between economic historians and economists in England. The institutionalization of Economic History in England, through the creation of its association, the organization of congresses and publications oriented to the community, should be seen not only as an indicator of the field’s vitality due to the organization of researchers, the dissemination of research findings and the presence of their respective researchers on the debate of major topics regarding society, but also as an instrument of protection and valuation of the field.
