Crisis, displacement and reconversion: Ilpes between the structuralist tradition and sociological criticism

This article analyzes Ilpes as a transnational institution of theoretical reconfiguration within Latin American development thought during the 1960s, amid the crisis of Cepal’s structuralist model. We argue that the Institute became a space of sociological inflection in the debate on peripheral capitalism, driven by sociologists who occupied an ambivalent position within the Latin American intellectual field: sufficiently integrated to mobilize the prestige of the structuralist tradition, yet peripheral enough to challenge it from within.
