Júlia Lopes de Almeida on the scene: outlines of the writer’s personal archive and unpublished theater

ABSTRACT

The article seeks to investigate the personal archive of the carioca writer Júlia Lopes de Almeida (1862-1934), considering it as a project, at the same time, (auto)biographic and aesthetic, and also aims to provide an overview of the unpublished dramaturgical texts, comprised of handwritten and typed manuscripts, located in this diversified repertoire. As this text intends to underscore, the above-mentioned documents can contribute not only for the enlargement of Júlia Lopes de Almeida’s literary legacy, but also for those studies devoted to the preservation of the legacy of the drama that flourished during the “tropical belle époque”, in which women playwrights were, if not totally overlooked, at least, explicitly under represented.
