Open-access Lived time in anxiety and depression: A phenomenological case study

Abstract

Depression and anxiety are pathological experiences that overlap. To address this phenomenon, it is necessary to return to the conditions that make it possible. Changes in lived time are of a pre-reflective nature and constitute one of the foundations of this pathological experience. We present a phenomenological case study with the aim of understanding the experience of lived time in anxiety intertwined with depression. We developed a qualitative investigation using the clinical encounter instrument to construct a single clinical case study of an adult participant. The stages of analysis followed the criteria of the phenomenological method. We found a strong correlation between anxiety, movement and inhibition of becoming intertwined with the depressive experience. Anxiety and depression remain mutually intertwined by a common affective nature like two sides of the same coin.
