Based on the observation that the body today occupies a strategic position in the forms of presentation of human suffering, this article discusses the diversity of these forms, based on the psychopathological model of hypochondria. The model of hypochondriacal investment in the body, described by Freud, is a useful instrument for understanding experiences of perception and representation of the body, and allows one to reflect on the modalities of listening to bodily events in the psychoanalytic clinic.
