In science, models can be built based on analogies from other fields. The literary narrative of the non-identification with one's own image in the mirror is a metaphor of subjectivation, in terms of a process starting from an otherness preceding it. If Lacan established an analogy with an optical experiment, devising a psychoanalytical model for that psychic process, literature, in turn, provides the metaphors that serve as models for psychic phenomena due to their critical function.
