After “judicialization”: a literature map of the Brazilian Supreme Court

ABSTRACT

Introduction:

The article makes a systematic review to explain the trajectory of the concept of “judicialization of politics” in literature produced by social sciences about the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Materials and Methods:

A total of 148 published documents between 1990 and 2021 were revised and classified.

Results:

The shaping of the study field about the STF is described, identifying its different development stages and its diverse themes, in addition to show how and why the concept of “judicialization” lost its importance in this context. This was mainly due to the emergence of alternative conceptual frameworks.

Discussion:

This conceptual review and critique exercise is relevant to the development of empirical analysis of the STF, because it contributes to raising the conceptual rigor of remaining uses of the notion of “judicialization of politics”.
