Educommunication and public health in Brazil: A scooping review

The article aimed to map and analyze the available evidence on educommunication and health, in order to discuss possibilities for the development of this dialogical potential in collective health, within the scenarios of SUS. This is a scoping review conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute and the PRISMA-ScR checklist. The searches were carried out in the BVS, Redalyc, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus, Pubmed, and OASISbr databases. Rayyan was used as the eligibility tool, and complete articles in English, Portuguese, and Spanish that focused on Brazilian contexts were included. A total of 28 studies addressing the intersection of educommunication and Brazilian collective health, published between 2009 and 2023, were analyzed. These studies were characterized by the subjects’ protagonism, through the creation of various types of materials, such as cordel literature, educational games, paintings, theater, in addition to covering various public health topics such as sexually transmitted infections, breast cancer, oral and mental health promotion, and environmental education. A promising relationship between educommunication and collective health in Brazil was observed, highlighting the potential development of this dialogical capability between the fields of education and communication in the scenarios of prevention and health promotion practices within SUS.
