Process of deinstitutionalization of practice and deinstitutionalization in psychiatric hospital: a case study

ABSTRACT

Psychiatric hospitals for many years were used as a place of exclusion of so-called crazy. Later came the psychiatric reform, as a social movement with the main objective of deinstitutionalization. This movement extends to the present day. This study aimed to discuss the practice of deinstitutionalization developed through experience with a resident of a psychiatric hospital. It was shown that the deinstitutionalization developed with ethics and professionalism in psychosocial rehabilitation and an expanded vision of clinic is complex. Also, it is multifaceted, requiring different approaches and perspectives in different ways, but with a common goal and Utopian.
