Articulating research with teaching and extension practices in Mercosul's Information Science courses

This work discusses the development of scientific research in the Library Studies and Information Science courses in Brazil, considering research as a pedagogical principle in the education of professionals in such areas of knowledge. Research was conducted in the five geographical Brazilian regions, including Sao Paulo, to verify the existing research groups, publications and events, term papers, and scientific initiation scholarships related to the subject. Considering that research should be integrated to teaching and extension practices in order to accomplish the desirable high quality professional education, this study's results demonstrate that a greater support for scientific research in the area is needed.
