Use of Web 2.0 tools by Ibero-American journals indexed by Web of Science and Scopus

The purpose of this research was to analyze the use of Web tools by scientific journals in Ibero-American countries. The methodological procedures are descriptive, exploratory, documental, quantitative and qualitative. The corpus included 883 Ibero-American journals indexed in 2011 list by the Institute of Scientific Information, Web of Knowledge and Scopus. By analyzing the Web resources used by the journals, we identified a massive number of electronic journals, 99.21%, the Web 2.0 features were identified in 9.27% of the publications, among which the use of social networking sites, microblogs, blogs, video and photo sharing platforms are the highlight outstanding. The analysis of the relationships between the characteristics of the journals that use the 2.0 tools showed higher impact indicators than those in countries that do not use the Web 2.0. It may be concluded that journals disseminate articles using the web platforms and Web 2.0 and prefer keeps traditional articles that can be printed.
