HUMAN, YET NOT HUMANISTIC, (KINDS OF) WRITING

ABSTRACT

Based on the notion of “structural others” of the humanistic subject (BRAIDOTTI, 2011, 2013, 2016), it is argued that writing technologies, in particular the text and the book, are constitutive elements of this subject and that the “structural others” of these writing technologies should also be considered. To illustrate the structural others of the writing models consolidated by the humanistic tradition, especially the grafocentric models of technical-scientific rationalism, the so-called “minor” writings produced by relevant humanistic authors and other types of writing produced by two contemporary artists working in the field of dramaturgy and the visual arts are examined. It is claimed that such writings are relevant to a post-humanist critical reflection because they favor the production of becomings by a materially and situationally embodied subject, as opposed to a cogito or disembodied transcendental consciousness.
