Territory as an urban mediation technology: the territorial customization of apps

Abstract

Information and communication technologies have changed the context in which we live on the most varied scales. For this reason, they have also become an important management tool for the problems of contemporary cities. This article aims to investigate the relationship between territory and technology, noting that technology is a producer of territories, but not all territory produces the same technology. This relationship will be explained by the analysis of the territorial customization of the mobile applications AlertaBlu (Blumenau/SC) and Onde Tem Tiroteio (Rio de Janeiro/RJ). The methodology consists of a bibliographic review and comparative analysis. The results show that these applications are territorial creators because they demarcate the safe and insecure places of the cities where they work. We conclude that these territories function as an urban mediation tool.
