Planting time for dry season peanut
V. Canecchio Filho
SUMMARY
Peanut can be planted twice a year in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. One of the plantings is made from October to January when rainfall is normally heavy (rainy season peanut) : the other is usually planted from February through May, and is called the dry season peanut planting.
Two experiments were carried out to determine the best sowing time for the dry season peanut Eive sowing dates were compared, namely : February 1st and 15th ; March 1st and 15th : and April 1st. The experiments were carried out in 1953 and 1954 at Campinas.
In the two tests the peanut plots sown on February 1st gave higher yields than those sown on February 15th. Later plantings gave no yields. It is suggested that the dry season peanut be sown not later than the early part of February, in the state of São Paulo.
