Effect of fertilizer application in contact with cassava cuttings
E. S. Normanha; E.S. Freire*
SUMMARY
The authors report the results obtained in a small experiment with cassava (Manihot utilissima Pohl), in which Chilean nitrate, ammonium sulphate, and potassium chloride were applied, as usually, in the planting furrows just before the cuttings were placed in them.
All fertilizer treatments delayed considerably the emergence of the sprouts. They all had a slight detrimental effect on the stand. In case of an unusually high dose of potassium chloride the reduction in stand was great.
The writers point out that the first type of injury might be frequently overlooked by the experimenters due to the difficulty in inspecting the trials during the emergence period.
