Determination of drying floor areas for castorbean fruits

SUMMARY
In most regions of Brazil, where castorbean is grown, the drying of the fruits is accomplished in the sun. For this reason it is indispensable to figure out a cement drying floor area that will permit to dry the fruits quickly without trouble due to over-crowding.
The presente paper brings about the data of some determinations made to adapt the formula S = Q.t/k.c, developed for coffee, to the calculation of the surface required to dry economically fruits of the dehiscent cultivar 'IAC-38'. The area thus figured out was of 157 square meters for every hectare planted with this cultivar, ensuring a production of 1,500 kg of seeds. per ha.
