On behalf of the Brazilian Chemical Society, it is our privilege and great pleasure to invite you to join us in Brazil and actively participate in the 46th World Chemistry Congress of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC-2017), to be held in São Paulo, July 9-14, 2017. For the first time in South America, this represents a unique opportunity for Brazilians to host chemists from countries worldwide.
We are planning a meeting of outstanding scientific interest and quality in the world-famous city of São Paulo. The World Chemistry Congress will be held in the WTC Events Center, one of the best venues for events in Latin America, which is located not far from Guarulhos International Airport (36 km/22 miles) and Congonhas Airport (6 km/3.7 miles). Hotels, restaurants, banks, shopping areas, services and other attractions are available either within the WTC Complex or in the surrounds, mostly within walking distances. São Paulo's diverse cultural and gastronomic attractions can be reached by the city's large public transportation network, including a nearby Metro station.
With the theme, "Sustainability & Diversity Through Chemistry", this wonderful and historic event links all fields of Chemistry. The scientific program has been carefully prepared by the Organizing and Scientific Committees, providing a major coverage of the main areas of interest for chemists. The scientific program includes high-level scientific sessions, plenary lectures, parallel sessions, as well as poster presentations and young scientists' workshops under 12 major topics, including over 100 symposia. The twelve major topics are: Analytical & Food Chemistry (AC), Chemistry Education (CE), Chemistry for Industry Innovation (CI), Chemical Synthesis (CS), Energy, Water and Environmental Sciences (EE), Green Chemistry and Biotechnology (GB), Inorganic and Structural Chemistry (IC), Macromolecules and Materials (MM), Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (MB), Nano Science and Technology (NT), Natural Products and Biodiversity (NB), and Physical, Biophysical and Computational Chemistry (PC).
During the meeting, scientists will present new multidisciplinary research, listen to the latest information in their areas of professional interest, and network with colleagues from around the world. Nobel laureates and worldwide leaders will share their inspiring stories and experiences on critical topics that have major implication in the world of today and tomorrow. Oral presentations selected from abstracts (posters) will provide a unique platform for researchers from all levels to present their results, to discuss and exchange information with the participants. Young scientists and researchers from Latin America are especially encouraged to participate and present their recent findings through oral communications and poster presentations.
Particular emphasis will be given to an intensified exchange between academia and industry. The close collaboration with the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (ABIQUIM) will allow the discussion of themes of interest to companies and to broaden the vision of both sides in terms of a deep collaboration.
In addition to what is certain to be a stimulating Congress program, participants will also be able to take advantage of exciting social activities. São Paulo is one of the largest and most dynamic cities in the world. This multicultural city is not limited to a diverse population: it boasts first-world infrastructure, world-class hotels, excellent gastronomy, world-class museums and plenty of culture, music, shows and attractions for every cultural background, age, taste and budget.
In 2017, the Brazilian Chemical Society will celebrate its 40th anniversary with the privilege to organize this special event, which will take place together with its 40th annual meeting, and the IUPAC 49th General Assembly. The Brazilian Chemical Society is the IUPAC National Adhering Organization (NAO) of Brazil and one of the most representative and important scientific associations in Latin America.
With São Paulo hosting the first IUPAC World Chemistry Congress on the continent of South America, we intend to bring an entire region of enthusiastic chemists closer to the global IUPAC community. We will deliver an unforgettable IUPAC Congress, energized by the passion, hospitality and creativity of the Brazilian people.
