The genus Colpocephalum Nitzsch, 1818, according PRICE & BEER (1965)PRICE, R.D. & BEER, J.R. The Colpocephalum (Mallophaga: Menoponidae) of the Ciconiiformes. Ann. Entomol. Soc. Am., v.58, n.1, p.111-131, 1965., includes a heterogeneous group of approximately 100 species of lice from birds representing at least ten orders; in the same work the authors recognize 43 species of Colpocephalum from birds of the Order Ciconiiformes. In this Order, the Family Threskiornithidae include various genera of ibis, such as Theristicus, Cercibis, Harpiprion and Phimosus, all hosts of the trispinum – group of Colpocephalum. In another work, PRICE & EMERSON (1967)PRICE, R.D. & EMERSON, K.C. Two new species of Colpocephalum (Mallophaga: Menoponidae) from Neotropical Ciconiiformes. Ann. Entomol. Soc. Am., v.60, n.5, p.875-878, 1967. describe 2 new species of Colpocephalum from Neotropical Ciconiiformes, C. cayennensis from Mesembrinibis cayennensis and C. infuscati from Phimosus infuscatus, both ibis from the Family Threskiornithidae. In March, 2003, was received in the Center for Wildlife Recovery (Núcleo de Reabilitação da Fauna Silvestre/CETAS) of the University Federal of Pelotas, state of Rio Grande do Sul, 1 specimen of Plegadischihi (Vieillot, 1817) (White-faced ibis), for recovery and posterior return at nature. Were collected 16 lice of the body surface, which were clarified in Andre´s fluid, dehydrated in ethanol, diaphaned in Creosote and mounted microscope slides with Canada Balsam. Confronting with the work of PRICE & EMERSON (1967)PRICE, R.D. & EMERSON, K.C. Two new species of Colpocephalum (Mallophaga: Menoponidae) from Neotropical Ciconiiformes. Ann. Entomol. Soc. Am., v.60, n.5, p.875-878, 1967., was observed total identity with Colpocephalum infuscati Price & Emerson, 1967PRICE, R.D. & EMERSON, K.C. Two new species of Colpocephalum (Mallophaga: Menoponidae) from Neotropical Ciconiiformes. Ann. Entomol. Soc. Am., v.60, n.5, p.875-878, 1967., basically by the male genitalia (specific character) and other features. This species is from the trispinum – group of Colpocephalum, which the typehosts for the 3 recognized species of this group, are threskiornitids. Colpocephalum infuscati was cited parasitizing Phimosus infuscatus berlepschi from Colombia and P. i. nudifrons from Brazil (Ceará). This report characterize a new host for C. infuscati and a new geografic distribution of this louse; all specimens were catalogued and deposited in the Entomological Collection DEMP-IB-UFPel, below the number 037.
