Due to COVID, it has been expected that there would be a reduction in research, and consequently, in the number of articles from these studies. And REM is no exception. There has been a reduction in published and received articles in 2022.
Even so, it is necessary to reduce the evaluation time of the articles (the average in REM is 125 days) because I believe that this reduction is important and will provide great possibilities for the future. This time reduction for analysis determines priority and presents the relationship between urgency and importance. The better this relationship, the more one can perceive what is urgent and important.
This time-reduction process can begin if one looks for potential future associate editors among young, oriented researchers. For this, current editors could seek help from this group, which we could call Assistant Associate Editors.
Since REM cannot afford the maintenance costs for the use of Publons Reviewer Locator and Publons Reviewer Recognition, approximately U$ 1200/year), our solution would be to increase the number of evaluators indicated by the associate editors.
In my opinion, locator entities have some flaws because they do not recognize only the area of the journal, but bring articles from several areas, which have nothing to do with those of the journal. Furthermore, the responses to the invitations made are minimal (around 10-15%), low for Clarivate's annual cost.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome a new reviewer, Civil Engineering area, Diogo Ribeiro, professor at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP).
Finally, thinking about time management for analyzing an article and increasing the number of reviewers, assistant associate editors are what REM needs to incorporate and encompass its role in disseminating science. Another extremely crucial and important thing to improve and make the most of your time is to delegate.
