SUMMARY
Tobacco seeds were stored in a series of closed containers over sulfuric acid of different dilutions to provide humidity gradations from 10 to 100% at 10% intervals. Phosphorus pentoxide was used in another container to obtain 0% relative humidity.
It was found that the best relative humidity for the conservation of the tobacco seed viability was 10%. At this humidity the seeds still showed a percentage of germination higher than 75% after 181 months in storage. Control seeds, stored in a cloth bag under laboratory conditions, showed a percentage of germination higher than 75% during 21 months.
