The amount of fruit thinning in loquat trees

SUMMARY
Trials were conducted at Itaquera, State of São Paulo, to determine the adequate amount of fruit thinning in loquat trees (Eriobotrya japonica LINDLEY) of Precoce de Itaquera and Mizuho varieties. Thinnings of increasing severity were investigated to evaluate its influence on the development of remaining fruits. The experiments showed that the thinning of fruits must be made severely, the number of remaining fruits per panicle being two to three on a weak, about four on a medium, and the maximum of six on a vigorous branch.
