We enthusiastically address the esteemed readers of Revista CEFAC (CEFAC Journal), a publication whose mission is to disseminate scientific advances related to various areas of Speech Therapy and its intersections with other fields of knowledge, contributing to the growth and enhancement of the quality of speech therapy science on both national and international levels. We have diligently worked to preserve the legacy left by its previous editors and further elevate the quality of the journal, ensuring its continued status as one of the primary Brazilian journals in the field of Speech Therapy with international reach.
The history of Revista CEFAC is intrinsically linked to the history of Speech Therapy. The journal was founded in 1999, in celebration of the 15th anniversary of CEFAC - Health and Education, a nationally and internationally renowned institution in Speech Therapy, extending its work to Education and Learning Disabilities. Preserving the name of the journal means valuing this history and those who, with dedication and commitment, have worked towards the production and dissemination of new knowledge in various areas of Speech Therapy and related fields. Since its inception, the journal has undergone significant transformations, evolving and gaining an increasingly global readership. Therefore, to facilitate the understanding of its scope by readers and researchers worldwide and to enhance its global visibility, we have adopted the acronym Continuing Education Focusing on Audiology and Communication.
In recent years, scientific journals have undergone various changes in their practices and procedures. Revista CEFAC has kept pace with trends and implemented modifications that we consider essential to ensure transparency and broad dissemination. These changes include the promotion of a data sharing policy, where authors are encouraged to share their research data, provided it does not violate human rights or participant privacy. Furthermore, we now welcome articles that are available on non-commercial preprint servers.
The submission guidelines for articles in Revista CEFAC are being improved and will soon be available on the website. Another update is the presentation of the new journal logo, which is more modern and aligned with the goal of increasing its visibility both nationally and internationally. The new journal logo has been in use since the first volume of 2023.
Following the trend of disseminating information on social media for knowledge democratization, Revista CEFAC has intensified the promotion of published articles through posts containing videos, images, and text on platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. Since 2020, we have had a team of Young Talents, consisting of carefully selected undergraduate and graduate students through a selective process. Under the supervision of the chief editors, this team has significantly contributed to increasing the visibility of articles and disseminating knowledge quickly and accessibly.
The editorial board of Revista CEFAC consists of a team of experts who are doctoral researchers in various fields of Speech Therapy, Audiology and related areas. Their work enables the peer review process, which continues to follow the double-blind model, emphasizing impartiality and ethics. The affiliation, ORCID, and email of all editorial board members have recently been updated on the website. The renewal of the editorial board is expected and necessary, considering the themes the members work on, their publishing history, their place of work, and their experience. Furthermore, an associate editor with expertise in technical reviews of literature reviews - systematic, integrative, and scoping reviews - has been added to the editorial board, as we have received them more frequently since the COVID-19 pandemic. Another novelty incorporated after the pandemic is the acceptance of protocols for literature reviews for peer review and potential publication in the journal.
Many challenges lie ahead. The next steps include updating the submission guidelines on the website, developing a dedicated website for the journal to facilitate access to its content and to promote greater recognition of our authors and reviewers. All these changes are being made to align the journal with the interests of its readers. Moreover, the chief editors of Revista CEFAC have been working diligently to increase the journal's indexing sources in the coming years.
We are strongly committed to the advancement of Revista CEFAC and Speech Therapy and Audiology as a whole. We hope to have the collaboration and support of all readers, authors, editors, and reviewers in this journey of continuous evolution.
