We are now publishing the second issue of the ninth volume of IBRACON Structures and Materials
Journal (RIEM, Volume 9, Number 2, April 2016). This issue contains eight articles on relevant topics on concrete structures and materials. The first article presents a Damage Mechanics approach for the numerical analysis of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams. Concrete is assumed as an initial elastic isotropic medium presenting anisotropy, permanent strains, and bimodularity induced by dam-age evolution. Global stability analysis of structures and actions to control their effects is the subject of the second article. The basic concepts of the instability parameters α and γz in accordance with the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 6118 are presented and simulation results are discussed. The study presented in the third article evaluates experimentally obtained shear strength of elements with hollow circular cross sections in comparison with values computed using the Canadian Code (CSA A23.3) and a proposed procedure based on the Brazilian standard (NBR 6118). The influence of the addition sequence of PVA-fibers and water on mixing and rheological behavior of mortars is addressed in the fourth article. Another article presents a study on the global stability of slender buildings consisting of flat slabs, with slenderness (ratio between smaller width with the height of the building) about one to six, from the modeling of a building with prestressed slabs nonadherent and waffle slabs. The sixth article presents an experimental parameterization of continuously reinforced concrete pavement us-ing nondestructive techniques. The objective of the seventh article is to provide recommendations for structural designers to meet higher performance requirements of the Brazilian Code NBR 15575:2013 with respect to durability. The last article presents a case study on the structural reliability assessment based on optical monitoring system aiming at a forecast of the reliability of an elevated water elevated reservoir for the next 100 years.
We acknowledge the efforts of the IBRACON community that supported the development of a qualified scientific journal dedicated to concrete structures and materials. We thank the authors for the sub-mission of high quality manuscripts, the reviewers for the dedication of their time carefully evaluating submissions, and former and current editors involved in the assurance of the quality of each issue.
