Resumo
Experiments with cut potato seed tubers to compare the relative value of lateral parts with whole tubers were conducted at four diilerent districts in the State of São Paulo : Joanópolis, at high and mountainous location, (about 1.000 ms. above sea level) ; Taubaté, in the flat lands on the right bank of the Paraíba river (about 500 ms high) ; Sorocaba, (at 550 ms) and Sta. Rita do Passa Quatro (at 800 ms of altitude). Whole seed tubers yielded better than lateral sets in all these places. Cutting gave good results only in Joanopolis. In the districts with medium altitude good yields were obtained with cut-seeds only by means of irrigation. These results agree with those already obtained in prior experiments (1) which have shown that whole seed tubers give also better yields in comparison with those secured from plantings made with basal and apical sets.
