SUMMARY
Correlations were established between data obtained by "Thornthwaite" type evapotranspirometers on a ten days basis, at Ribeirão Preto (State of
São Paulo, Brazil Lat. 21°11' S) and the corresponding values estimated by Penman's and Thornthwaite's methods.
The totals of potential evaporatranspiration for 27 decendials were: measured: 898 mm; computed: Penman, 917 mm; Thorntwaite, 816 mm. It can be observed that the latter underestimated by about 9% the potential evapotranspiration of the period. The results obtained by Penman's method were far closer to the measured data, overestimating them by only 2%.
The correlation coefficients between computed and measured data, on a ten day basis, were the following: Penman's, r=0.95** and Thorn-thwaite, r= 0.84**.
