SUMMARY
Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz. was found inducing anthracnose on safflower in São Paulo State, Brazil.
The fungus caused necrotic spots on stems of affected plants, which usually broke and caused shoot deformation or death.
Pathogenicity tests following isolation of the agent, reproduced the original symptoms. All the tested varieties Gila (Peru), Gila Safflower, Pacific I, U.S. 10, N-10, Safflower (U.S.A.), Gila-M/64-37-1964 (República Sul-africana), Gila-M/65-301-1965 (República Sul-africana), I.A.C. (Campinas) were found to be susceptible.
