SUMMARY
This paper reports the effect of light on the growth and sporulation of the fungus Ceratocystis fimbriata isolated from Mangifera indica L.
The tests were conducted in Petri dishes with synthetic agar medium, and established in randomized plots with 6 treatments and 3 replications.
The following treatments were studied: A. constant light (neon bulb); B. alternate light and darkness (day and night); C. constant darkness plus two radiations with U.V.; D. constant light plus two radiations with U.V.; E. constant and total darkness; F. culture medium exposed to U.V., inoculated and maintained at constant light.
The treatments F, A and B were the best for growth, while C, D, and E were the worst ones.
Sporulation occurred in all treatments, but the best perithecia with asco-spores production occurred in the D treatment.
