The publishing center of the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) was created by the Board of Directors of FMUSP with the participation of the editors of the journals linked to the courses of Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy, as well as with the editors of the journals Clinics and Revista de Medicina. The proposal is to gather all the scientific journals from the Hospital das Clínicas complex (School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo - HCFMUSP) - Revista de Medicina, Scientific Department of FMUSP; Fisioterapia & Pesquisa; Revista de Terapia Ocupacional; and Clinics. The publishing center is a service connected to the Board of the School of Medicine, with support of the administrative superintendency of the Hospital das Clínicas.
The project started in 2014, and was implemented in February 2015, with the main goal of centralizing, in a single space, the management of the journals, providing an intense exchange of experiences among them. That way, everyone would have the support from the direction of FMUSP regarding the publications and other initiatives developed and implemented aiming at the internationalization of the journals, with the constant concern of maintaining quality.
The librarians from the publishing center give technical advice to the journals of occupational therapy, physiotherapy and medicine, and are part of the journals' Executive Departments. In addition, they support editors throughout all the initial processing, from receiving the articles on the website to the finalization of the revised editions, of open access in the Journals of USP website (www.revistas.usp.br), SciELO (www.scielo.org), and indexed at Lilacs (lilacs.bvsalud.org/).
The journals under the center's supervision are recognized as institutional of FMUSP. Thus, they are supported by the Support for Periodical Scientific Publications Program of USP and can be found in the Journals of USP website. The three journals are among the ten most viewed and with the largest number of downloads of the Journals of USP website. In addition, the Fisioterapia & Pesquisa journal is also indexed at SciELO.
The occupational therapy and physiotherapy journals have a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary character. They develop cooperation with the areas that today share a larger view of health - in research, teaching and extension of actions for the community -, integrating social policies of care, rehabilitation, and social inclusion of people with harmed health, disabilities, mental disorders, and in situations of personal and/or social vulnerability.
The maintenance of periodicity and the increase in the number of articles per year are also goals of scientific journals linked to the center. Actions are being developed to stimulate national and international authors to publish in the journals of the FMUSP. The collection of articles by foreign authors and bilingual publishing are already a reality in the online version.
With the establishment of the publishing center in this new scenario, we hope to consolidate the knowledge areas journals, exchange experiences, strengthen our critical vision, increase visibility and improve the indexing standard in international databases. This goal is important, being a challenge shared by all who are involved with the service, thus reaffirming our commitment to disclose current and quality science to our readers.
