SUMMARY
The writer discusses some resulta obtained by various authors and himself on the rooting of cuttings of the rubber tree, pointing out that the factors responsible for successful results are far from being well understood. It seems established that cuttings from young plants root more easily than those taken from older ones or from mature trees. On the other hand there is a position effect: basal cuttings are easier to root than those taken from positions nearer to the apex of the seedling. From results obtained with girdled cuttings, it is believed that there is a downward migrating substance that promotes the rooting of the cuttings.
