SUMMARY
Chemical analysis of corn leaves are being carried out in this Laboratory to determine if acetic acid-soluble phosphorus is a sensitive index of phosphorus status of the crop. Preliminary data from leaf analysis showed higher levels of phosphate phosphorus with increasing amounts of phosphate fertilizer applications, for two corn field experiments.
A procedure for phosphate determination is reported herein. It is based on the method used by Ulrich and on Bray's soil test for phosphorus.
The precision obtained in analysing corn leaf samples at three different levels of phosphate showed an average coefficient of variation of 2.6 per cent for a single determination.
