An unmissable chance
Maria Fidela de Lima Navarro
IADR Immediate Past President
The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) holds annually a General Session within the USA and every other year outside this country. At these meetings Distinguished Scientist Lectures are presented by Nobel Prize winners or well recognized scientists. There are also Symposia, Hands-on Workshops, Lunch & Learning, Keynote Speakers, Oral Sessions and Poster Sessions, organized by the 25 IADR Scientific Groups/Networks and the Annual Session Committee. In addition to the scientific sessions there are many social events occurring during the 4 days that the Congress lasts. Therefore, these are great opportunities for exchange of knowledge and for establishing new international partnership in the oral research field.
Next year, for the first time in the history of the IADR, a General Session is going to be held in the Latin America region, and Rio de Janeiro was the site chosen for such event. The Board of Directors and the Council of the IADR was sensitive to the demand from Latin American representatives and agreed to a reduction of 50% on the registration fee for the members of this region since they were in good withstanding with their annual dues. In addition, these members also can make the registration payments in installments. This is an unmissable chance for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professors/investigators interested in research, to participate in this remarkable event.
Similarly to what occurs with the sites where the Olympic Games are held that improve immensely in all kind of sports and also the infrastructure of the country with the whole process, this is an important component of the success achieved by countries that had the chance to hold a General Session. First of all it is an opportunity for students and Faculty members who cannot afford travelling expenses to go abroad to attend the IADR General Session, to participate in this type of meeting within their own country. These events also motivate local enterprises to improve their business to better serve the customers and as a consequence the country achieves more development.
Considering the benefits offered by the IADR, I kindly invite the colleagues and students who are not yet members of the IADR to affiliate to this amazing association and to take advantage of being linked to this most prestigious scientific society and to prepare a study to be submitted to the upcoming meeting in Rio de Janeiro from June 20 through June 23, 2012.
