Summary

Anatomical comparisons were made between diploid and poliploid leaves of the clone IAN 717 of the hybrid Hevea brasiliensis x benthamiana. In general, significant increase in cell size was observed when poliploids were compared to diploids. The poliploids were not totally fixed, as the work was done with the original treated material and myxoploid variegations were found, as well as diploid epidermises on folioles with poliploid mesophyll. The anatomical data here presented, permit us to suggest that poliploids should be more resistent to drought than diploids. The larger diameter of the latex vassels also suggest higher productivity.
