SUMMARY
The resistance of vinespinach (Basella alba L. syn. B. rubra) to wild and artifical innoculation of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne sp.) was evaluated. Two lines were selected as being resistent and were compared with the original material (INPA—1). There was an significant increase in the percent of plants showing an absence of root galls and better production. It is suggested that populations with greater natural variability be used for further improvement.
