Fourteen pre-germinative seed treatments for visgueirom (Parkia péndula Benth), Legumisosae- Mimosoidae, were studied, considering percentage of germination and emergence time of germinated seeds as parameters for evaluation of each treatment over a 45 day period. The sulfuric acid treatments (H2SO4) for 20 and 30 minutes and cutting of seeds opposit the point of radical emission showed the best results for increasing and standardizing germination. The analysis of treatment effects demonstrates that the seed coat is a physical barrier that limited the germination process during the observation period.
