Biologia floral de Solanum sessiliflorum Dun. Var. sessiliflorum, na região de Manaus, AM

A study was made In Manaus, Amazonas of the floral biology of Solanum Sessiliflorum Dun. varn. var. sessiliflorum. The plant has a melittophylous pollination syndrome. Based on bee behavior, size, and frequency of visits, Eulaema nigrita is considered to be the most efficient pollinator of tills Solanum species. This species seems to be allogamous, a few flowers are open at the same time on any single plant, and the anthers of the flowers open by apical pores. The bees which visit flowers of Solanum sessiliflorum var. sessiliflorum are mostly forest-dwelling, therefore nearby forest is required for the pollination and perpetuation of this species.
