Forty-one (41) species of mosses are reported as new records for certain Brazilian States. These species are distributed among 30 genera and 20 families. Geographical distribution in Brazil, type localyte, basionym, commente on substrate, and the most important characteristics for identification are presented for each species. Philonatle ampliretis Broth., Sematophyllum panduraefolium (Broth.) Broth, and Syrrhopodon proliferSchwaegr. war. tenuifolius (Sull.) Reese are illustrated. Barbula cruegeri Sond ex C. Muell. and Neohyophila sprengelii(Shwaegr.) Crum are new records for Brazil.
