Qualified information supporting continuous dermatology training

Qualified information supporting continuous dermatology training

If medical information can and should be faster, professional training requires periods of key accumulation of knowledge, followed by adjustment and improvement. Understanding that, which information and knowledge basis will be provided to care for our patients?

The best efforts should be directed to precise, transparent information obtained from the best evidence and to humanistic training, ethically correct and without compromise in study, work, respect and partnership.

Therefore, our periodical Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia intends to be an informative instrument to serve to medical training in general and dermatological training specifically. Having in mind the mission of publishing the most significant research studies and investigations within its area of scope, ABD gathers in this issue diversified topics that show the multiplicity and wealth of our specialty.

Kawasaki Disease is the topic of Continuing Medical Education (Castro PA et al, páginas). It is an important topic for clinical practice considering the likelihood of serious complications of the disease. We should emphasize that attentive reading of this text will certainly revive your theoretical and practical knowledge about this disease, ensuring detailed update.

Confirming our historical trend to observe, describe and treat tropical dermatosis, there is a new chapter being opened in this edition: data on gnathostomiasis parasitosis, which affected a Brazilian patient who had travelled to Peru (Dani CMC et al., páginas).

In addition to the description of this important clinical case, there is also an original study in Hansen disease, which tried to define the correlation between presence of genetic polymorphism (Val274Leu) and high titers of specific antiphospholipid antibodies (which could explain at least in part the thromboembolic phenomena in Hansen patients) (Brochado MJF et al., páginas ).

We suggest special attention to the articles about skin biopsy and the historical and useful method of Tzanck, because they are opportunities to read about routine practice but going beyond simple information, which enables interesting reflexive exercises (Werner B, páginas e Brito MMC et al., páginas , respectively).

To readers and members of Brazilian Society of Dermatology, we would like to highlight that the online submission system should start operating in July/August 2009 and, at the same time, the answers to the EMC questionnaires (which generate scores for Continuing Medical Education) may also be submitted online through the website www.anaisdedermatologia.org.br.

As of the next edition of ABD (volume 84, number 5), responses to the questionnaire will be exclusively received by online submission.
