Refractive change from use of intraocular silicone oil

SUMMARY

We studied the refractive ehanges due to the use of intraocular silicone oil in phakic (11) and aphakic (13) eyes.

Phakic eyes became more hiperopic (6,4 D in average) and aphakic eyes became less hiperopic (7,4 in average). These refractive changes occur because the silicone oil has a refractive index higher than those of the ocular media.
