A comparative study among the color vision tests in low vision patients

SUMMARY

Fifty-seven low vision patients (112 eyes) from the São Geraldo hospital were examined to study the relationship between visual acuity and the possibility of performing color vision tests. The patients were submitted to Ishihara, Farnsworth’s Panel D15, Roth's D28 and The City University Color Vision Test. The patients with a visual acuity equal or greater than 0.05 had a favorable response to the tests.

A comparative study among the Farnsworth’s Panel D15 and Roth’s D28 and The City University Color Vision Test was done to determine the best test to classify a dyschromatopsia. All groups showed identical and better response to Farnsworth’s Panel D15 and Roth’s D28 than to the CUCVT.

The Ishihara test is indicated to classify pathology as congenital or acquired. To classify the type of dyschromatopsia the authors concluded that the Roth’s D28 is the best chromatic test in low vision patients due to its sensibility in relation to Farnsworth’s D15.
