Side effects of acetazolamide per os during the first five days of treatment and relationship with seric potassium level

SUMMARY

A double blind study was carried out to understand the relationship between seric potassium level and side effects during the first five days of treatment with acetazolamide 500 mg per os. Among all the pacients who received acetazolamide side effects were encountered. Paresthesias were the most common. There was no difference between the seric potassium level prior and after treatment. The results suggest that there is no relationship between the side effects and changes on the seric potassium level.
