Preliminary results with modified Schocket implant in 12 eyes with neovascular glaucoma

SUMMARY

Twelve eyes of eleven patients with neovascular glaucoma (eyes of diabetic patients and eyes with retinal venous occlusion) received a modified Schocket implant, as the first surgical procedure.

There were seven men an four women.

The average pre operative intraocular pressure was 45.3 ± 11.2 mmHg. The average post operative intraocular pressure was 25.2 ± 11.7 mmHg.

Follow-up ranged from 3 to 27 months (mean = 9.8 ± 7.6 months).

Seven eyes kept intraocular pressure equal or lower than 21 mmHg.

Obstruction of the intracameral tip of the tube by iris occurred in three eyes. In one eye the tube left the anterior chamber.

Modified Schocket implant may prove worthwhile in the management of neovascular glaucoma.
